A Takeout Double is a bid made by an Overcaller. A player opens the bidding in a suit and an opponent (Overcaller) says the word “double”. If using a bidding box, the red card with an ‘X’, is used to signify Double.
A Negative Double is a bid made by the Responder in the first round of bidding, after an Opponent overcalls, and depending on the suit(s) bid, shows support for one or more unbid suits plus some HCP.
Takeout and Negative Doubles occur frequently and will be invaluable to your success.
